The opinion of Aventure Nordique
National Tourist Route Senja (County Road 86/862) runs from Gryllefjord to Botnhamn over a total distance of 102 kilometres, included side roads to Husøy and Mefjordvær, on Norways second largest island. The drive along the outer edge of Senja is a journey through a constantly changing landscape. Deep fjords, glistening beaches, precipitous mountainsides and vital fishing villages define the local scenery. The road winds uphill and downhill, in and out of fjords and through villages clinging to strips of land between the mountains and the sea. The island of Senja imparts an extraordinary experience of pristine nature. The dramatic peaks of the Okshornan rising out of the sea provide a striking contrast to the idyllic islets and skerries of the Bergsfjord. On short detours to the fishing villages of Husøy, Bøvær and Mefjordvær you can become acquainted with the islands vibrant coastal culture. Summer ferries from Gryllefjord to Andenes and from Botnhamn to Brensholmen.
