An exceptional sack suitable for up to 2-3 nights out in the hills. Great quality and superb comfort. Exceptional help from Regis and service.Avis de Ben le 29/05/2012
This is my second Aarn sack - first from this site - and I have to say I can not fault my customer experience. Ordered Monday and arrived in the UK on Wednesday.
I have now used the sack 4-5 times, overnight and on 2-3 day hikes in the UK. For me it is perfect size and arrangement of space for my needs. I solo walk/camp, lightweight throughout the year. Main sack takes tent, sleeping mat and bag, some clothing and overnight food, with balance pockets used for all the things you need to have to hand - camera, water, trail snacks, map, compass, GPS, spectacles etc etc. All parts have integral waterproof liners, one of which I have removed from one of the balance pockets as water bottles don't need to be kept dry. The top closure and compression all help to stabilise the load very effectively.
The harness is unique and provides great comfort, stability and flexibility. I have worn the sack doing basic scrambling, without the pockets getting in the way. Even on very steep (steeper than 1:1) terrain you feel safe and secure and feet placement is not impaired.
If you are not used to Aarn Bodypacks, then they do take some getting used to. But once done they are exceptionally comfortable and practical. Two factors to influence your choice of these sacks - first: do you use bottles or bladder hydration - I have never got used to using a hose with bladder so bottles for me and second: do you take you sack on and off a lot, I don't and you don't need to if you plan your packing properly.
It is worth adding that I use Pacerpoles which are trekking poles with an ergonomic grip helping to create good posture and comfort. Used with the Aarn sack this is a perfect combination. Walking tall and strong even after 8-10 hours out on the hill.
I have two very small negatives - Aarn sacks do come up relatively expensive (hence 4*s) but I think they are good value for money, you just have to get over the idea of spending the money. Second, set up takes a little while to get right. But once done the sack is wearable all day.
I would thoroughly recommend this sack (and brand) and I would also thoroughly recommend this site for service and advice. My main complaint is I can't buy Aarn in the UK, but Aventure Nordique are now firmly in my favourites list.
