The book ICELAND - Nature Paradise at the Arctic Circle: The best hiking trails on the largest volcanic island on Earth by the German Uwe Grundewald was self-published by this Icelandic enthusiast and doctor in geosciences. He has been traveling the island every year since 1992 and passes on his knowledge through his publications.
The 228 pages book is divided in 12 sectors (Fimmvörðuháls, Landmannalaugar, Laugavegur, Hengill, Hornstrandir, Kjalvegur, Kerlingarfjöll, Skaftafell, Öskjuvegur (Askja-Trail), Mývatn / Krafla - Dettifoss, Jökulsárgljúfur, Víknaslóðir / Dyrfjöll), some of these areas are well known, others are more confidential but are equally worth a visit.
