The opinion of Aventure Nordique

The ÖKO filter bottle filters water right as you drink it. Simply fill the bottle, close the cap with the built-in filter, and then squeeze the flexible body of the bottle to force the water through the filter cartridge. This simple process provides safe drinking water instantly.

Technically, the filter is screwed directly into the bottle’s cap. When you squeeze the bottle, the water flows through the filter element. The water is filtered simultaneously, just as you’re hydrating yourself.

The ÖKO filter combines:

  • mechanical filtration with 1.25-micron pores

  • electro-adsorption technology using alumina nanofibers derived from the mineral pseudoboehmite.

According to ÖKO Europe, this system reduces many laboratory-tested contaminants, including bacteria, protozoa, and even viruses.

The water bottle’s body is made of food-grade PP5 polypropylene and is flexible to facilitate the flow of water through the filter. The cap is made of Tritan and features a pipette protected by a tip cover, which is convenient for keeping the bottle clean in your backpack or while out in the field. The wide opening makes it easy to fill and clean the water bottle, while the included carabiner allows you to easily attach it to a backpack or carry it around camp.

The filter can be easily replaced by unscrewing it from the cap. Its lifespan is rated at up to 378 liters when used with clear water containing few sediments. Water with a high particle content will shorten its lifespan.

To clean, wash the bottle, the pipette, and the cap with soap and water, leaving the filter out. The filter should not be washed or come into contact with anything other than water.

3 Steps to Understanding the ÖKO Filter

  1. Filter Composition: The filter membrane is composed of a natural mineral fiber—pseudoboehmite (AlOHH)—antibacterial ions, and microscopically dispersed activated carbon. It is 8 mm thick and has more than 400 pores.
  2. Mechanical filtration: The filter’s pores are calibrated to 1.25 microns. They mechanically block particles equal to or larger than this size, such as sediments and certain impurities. This first level of filtration is particularly effective at trapping silt and suspended particles.
  3. Submicron filtration by electroadsorption: Upon contact with water, the natural mineral fiber emits a positive charge field around the hollow volume of the pores. The water is then stripped of submicron contaminants, which are attracted like a magnet to the membrane’s retention surface. This is the principle of electroadsorption.

Usage Tips:

  • An Öko filter can filter approximately 378 liters of water when used with clear, potable tap water. This corresponds to 6 months of use based on an average of 2 liters per day. The water filter should be replaced based on your personal usage. The more sediment in the water, the shorter the filter’s lifespan will be.
  • When should you replace the filter? When the taste or smell of tap water returns, it means the filter is nearing the end of its capacity. Öko has developed a free app, Öko Counter, available on the Apple Store or the Play Store, which helps you track your water consumption and plan when to replace the filter element.
  • How do you replace it? Simply unscrew and screw it back on.
  • Care: The bottle, pipette, and cap (without the filter) can be washed at room temperature with soap and/or water.
Accessories Carabiner
Warning
  • The listed contaminants and pollutants are tested in independent French laboratories that are Cofrac-approved and accredited.
  • NEVER clean the filter or allow it to come into contact with any substance other than water (if you need to filter muddy water, rinse the outside of the filter with water).
Eco-responsible contribution At the end of its life, the bottle's body can be 100% recycled.
