The opinion of Aventure Nordique

The Forty Below Camp Booties are insulated booties designed for camping, bivouacking, and winter expeditions. They keep your feet warm in the tent, at a mountain hut, or around camp, without having to put on your ski, mountaineering, or hiking boots every time you step outside.

The Forty Below Camp Booties have proven themselves over the years among cold-weather enthusiasts for their thermal performance, ease of use, and versatility. They are particularly useful in the evening at the bivouac, during rest periods, for cooking, melting snow, or stepping out of the tent briefly.

They feature a synthetic fiber filling, which dries faster than natural down and retains better insulation even when the fibers are damp or compressed. This synthetic construction is well-suited to cold conditions and repeated use in winter terrain.

The flexible, textured, and slightly lugged sole allows you to move around camp while minimizing the sensation of cold caused by thermal conduction. The bottom of the boot is reinforced with a coated Cordura strip, approximately 3 cm high, which improves abrasion resistance and limits moisture penetration.

The inner and outer shells are made of uncoated ripstop taffeta nylon. This construction promotes lightness and allows for better moisture wicking, while maintaining good flexibility during use.

The bootie can be adjusted using two systems:

  • a long lace that passes through 4 buckles, to fine-tune the fit around the foot;

  • a drawcord at the top of the bootie, above the ankle.

Camp Booties come with a removable closed-cell foam insole, which adds comfort and insulation. This insole can also be used between an inner boot and the shell of a ski or mountaineering boot, depending on the equipment configuration.

These booties are designed primarily for thermal comfort at base camp. For walking in snow, on soggy ground, or on abrasive terrain, it is best to pair them with suitable outer protection.

Points to remember

The Forty Below Camp Booties are true camp booties for cold weather: simple, warm, made of synthetic materials, and practical for use in a tent or mountain hut. We love their minimalist design, their removable insole, and the ability to give your feet some breathing room after a day in your boots.

They’re ideal gear for winter bivouacking, ski-pulka treks, and expeditions where foot comfort becomes essential as soon as you arrive at camp.
