The opinion of Aventure Nordique

The Open-Back from our neighbours at Vercors Inlandsis is a harness designed to equip your dog for towing sports. This model, available in 6 sizes, is suitable for small to medium-sized dogs. It's ideal for dog-runnig, dog-hiking, dog-biking or dog-skiing. With this harness, your dog will be able to develop its full pulling power in the chest area, with a high level of comfort.

It's very easy to put on by passing the head and then the front legs. The harness stays in place and doesn't ride up on the throat. Thanks to its two stainless steel and rustproof aluminium adjustment buckles, the Open-Back harness fits the vast majority of dogs. It is adjustable for back length and ribcage width.

The Open-Back harness has reflective strips for added safety at night or in winter. It's also padded and comfortable.

Additional information

Choosing the right size:

When choosing a harness size, we advise you to rely mainly on your dog's weight. The half neck size is given as a guide. It is measured from the tip of the sternum (pointed bone in the middle of the chest) to the front of the withers (junction of the neck and the top of the shoulders), on one side only. A pulling harness does not actually follow the shoulder along its entire length. If your dog is of two sizes, choose the smaller one.

  • XXXXS: 3-5 kg dog, 14-15 cm half neck.
  • XXXS : dog weighing 5-8 kg, half-shoulder size 18-19 cm
  • XXS : dog weighing 8-11 kg, half-size 18-19 cm
  • XS: 11-15 kg dog, 20-21 cm waist
  • S: dog weighing 15-20 kg, half-iron size 21-22 cm
  • M: dog weighing 20-24 kg, half-size 23-24 cm

To check the size of a pulling harness, here are the points to check, numbered in order of importance (see photo):

  1. The neck straps must meet just in front of the withers at the top and +/- 1 cm from the sternum at the bottom.
  2. The seam at the end of the harness must be +/- 2 cm from the base of the tail.
  3. The main strap should pass under the point of the pelvis.
  4. The straps meet at the last two ribs.

Note: the dog should pull hard on the harness to ensure it is firmly in place.
