The Blizzard 5+ Sleeping Mat from Norwegian brand Helsport is a 4-season inflatable mattress weighing 820g. It is insulated with hollow polyester fibres and a 4-layer aluminium foil, making it suitable for winter use (R-Value of 5.77). The main fabric is 30 denier recycled polyester.
Its rectangular shape provides good shoulder insulation, and restless sleepers will stay put because the edges on each side are a little thicker, creating a pleasant cradle effect.
The Blizzard's dimensions (180 x 55 cm) mean it fits into most of today's tents: its width is a little wider than other brands' standard models. It is 7 centimetres thick. It is designed with cells arranged diagonally to avoid cold bridges.
It is inflated via a single double-valve pump bag. This ensures that no moisture enters the mattress, preserving its R-Value. To optimise weight, the pump bag doubles up as the mattress storage bag. A small pocket in the bag contains a repair kit.
There are also loops on the top and sides of the mattress for attaching a pillow and/or coupling 2 Helsport mattresses together.
