Exped's Serac 40 is a lightweight, waterproof backpack designed for alpine use and a wide range of outdoor activities. It features a 38-liter volume with a wide opening. Minimalist, it is extremely well designed:

Roll-up closure for quick access to contents.

Waterproof side zipper for quick access to main compartment.

Front pocket with waterproof zipper for storing gear or shovel and probe.

Small outside pocket with waterproof zipper.

Small inside zippered pocket.

Compartment for hydration pouch.

Removable side compression straps for attaching skis, and attachment loops for climbing gear.

The 400D ripstop nylon fabric is tough and abrasion-resistant. It's also weatherproof to 10,000 millimeters, and the seams are heat-sealed.

Removing the various removable parts, the weight of the backpack can be reduced to 695 grams.
