Cables can be removed and stowed for free heel uphill touring and re-attached for more performance on the descent, making it one of the most versatile and lightweight backcountry touring bindings out there.

How are the bindings mounted to riser plate, is there inserts in the riser?
The Riser is attached to the skis. The binding is screwed directly into the plastic of the Riser Plate. There is no metal insert.
